Please recall that the following materials are needed by the BME graduate program in addition to this form:

  • Official transcripts of current Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores. Our Institution Code is 4832, and Department Code is 1603. Only the general GRE scores are necessary, and we recommend a minimum of 500 verbal and 650 quantitative, as well as 650 analytical on tests taken before October 2002 or a 3 on the new analytical writing section.
  • A 1-2 page essay or statement of purpose describing your background, research interests and career goals. Include in your statement any information pertinent to your research experience, whether in course work, special projects or employment. Please explain why you want to obtain a graduate degree in Biomedical Engineering and what, specifically, led you to apply to our graduate program.
  • Three letters of recommendation from former professors or individuals knowledgeable about your academic and scientific abilities. There are no specific forms to use; the letters should arrive at the program in a sealed envelope, with the author's name written across the seal.
  • An original official transcript. Applicants are expected to have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical or life sciences, or mathematics for admission into the Program, with a minimum GPA of 3.0. If you are currently attending or have graduated from the University of Arizona, our program will obtain copies of your transcript. Please notify us if you do not give BME permission to share your academic information within the BME Program. Previous coursework including Calculus I and II, ordinary differential equations, and at least one course in life science generally is required. Applicants lacking in some area at the time of application may provide a plan to gain competence in these areas, or may request conditional admission status.
  • International applicants from non-English speaking countries must submit the TOEFL with a score of 600 or more, as well as provide a Financial Guarantee statement as part of their application. When sending an international application to the US, please take into account that US letter-size paper is 1.5 cm shorter than A4 paper. You should not have anything on the last 4 cm at the bottom of the paper; that area gets cut off when the application is photocopied or cut down to fit with the rest of the applications.

Remember, there is a separate application form and fee for the Graduate College of the University of Arizona which must also be completed.
